Black Bread Photography is to be looked at with an open mind. I don’t always see things the way others do, and I often find beauty in strange places. You’ll find most of the photography within the Black Bread Photography area is Black & White. To me, B&W is the purest form of photography. It’s how the era of the photograph got started, so I feel a strong urge to keep that method alive, if only for a little while longer.
In the age of digital cameras/photography, things are changing quickly. You no longer have to set things up, wait, and wait…and wait, for the perfect exposure to occur. With new developments in high ISO’s (up into the hundred-thousands now. WOW!), and its lack of limitations, the digital photograph is starting to change from its predecessor. For the first time, you can do things with digital cameras that you simply can not do with film ones. I don’t feel this is a bad thing. I feel it’s simply different. I will move more happily into the digital age over time, but for now, let me savor the old ways. Silver on paper.
I have been doing photography since I was about 14 years old–if not earlier with my parent’s camera, and my Aunt’s old Pentax–and I just fell in love with imagery of all kinds. I love that a photo can mean so many different things from each viewer’s perspective. And, the best part, it can’t be wrong! Sure, a picture can be technically perfect, or imperfect, but I will always argue that no picture is truly a “bad” picture as long as it gets a message across. It is, after all, a subjective art. I’d rather have a slightly musty, dusty old print that scares the hell out of me in a way I just can’t put my finger on than a glossy, perfectly exposed print that says nothing, beautifully.
At some point, I may offer prints for sale via Black Bread Box. For now, I’ll be showcasing some of my black and white work (both digital and print) here, online. I have a feeling the gallery section will become quite large over time! I hope you see something you like. Something you hate. Something that makes you think. Something you’ve never seen before.
