Black Bread Films is a teeny, tiny film company existing of little old me, my video cameras, and my Mac. I’ve been making documentary-type films for a few years now, mainly consisting of family videos that I’ve put together for holiday viewings, and I enjoy making the films immensely. I love the way I can take footage from an everyday event, like a birthday, and make it into a deeper story. How does it tie in with all of my other footage from the year? Where is the unifying story? This is the puzzle I like solving. Again, I get to tell a story. Brilliant!

When I was younger, I often had a video camera, or still camera, always in hand. I don’t like to lose memories, so I often try to capture as many as I can. There will come a day when I forget, and I don’t want to! So, I try and make an effort to keep my family alive, even after they are gone. You never know when someone will leave you. Personally, I’d rather have a video memory than none at all. Seeing a still picture is great on its own, but there’s just something about a moving-picture that makes the person feel more alive. Why?  Well, that’s part of the fun. To put on screen the essence of a person through my eyes. I can only describe someone by the way that I know them. My goal is to let other people see through my eyes. Maybe it will make them think? Cry? Laugh? As long as I can make them feel something, my job is done.

Whether or not I ever release one of my film projects to the public, I consider myself a film-maker. After all, it’s not what you put out into the world, it’s what you have inside of you that matters. My love for film is eternal.
