Black Bread Books is my way of making books for the public to read and enjoy. I’ve enjoyed writing my first book so much and simply want it to be read. I may not have written the “next great American novel”, but I’d like to think that there are some people out there who could relate to, and enjoy, the story. I feel the characters are so real in my mind, and I know others would like them, too. In my opinion, how could they not? It’s a great story!

My first book, titled “Days with Indigo”, has taken me about a year and a half to write and publish (by Black Bread Books, of course!). I used all the determination that I had to write, and then finish, this book. This was a total D.I.Y. approach. I wrote, edited, proofread and formatted the entire book myself (with a bit of help in certain technology areas from Warren, my husband) and it was absolutely exhausting. However, it was totally worth the exhaustion. I love the story, the characters and the entire feel of this book. I love it with all of my heart and soul. It is a part of me. Once you read it, I’m confident it will become a part of you, too.

Writing a book has been nothing, and I mean NOTHING, like writing music for me. As some of you know, I’ve been in the band Hungry Lucy for over ten years now. I’ve always written some form of poetry, so lyrics were an easy transition from what I already knew. But, a book? Wow. What a difference! I found myself getting so connected to the characters that I was creating that I didn’t want to let them go. When the first draft was done, I went through a sort of depression. I felt like they had all gone away and I’d never see them again. I physically mourned them as if they were real. But, I soon realized that I could read, and re-read, the book as many times as I wanted when I felt the need to see them again. Plus, I always have the ability to go back and write a whole new adventure for them, if I want to. I can go so many places with this sort of writing. I can go places that music won’t allow. Telling a story inside of a 3-5 minute song can be a bit of a challenge. But, telling a story that you can really lose yourself in, well, that was just stunningly satisfying for me! I’m hooked. Let the ink flow.

My hope is to offer my book in both digital and physical book formats. Obviously, digital offers an immediate product that uses no paper (a concern for most people in these times). But, as with myself, I know there are people out there that still want a big old book to cuddle up with. So, I plan to offer a lovely hardcover book to those who want it. It will definitely cost more than the digital version, but I will do my best to always keep costs low, while maintaining a responsibility to our Earth and our resources. As you now know, Black Bread Books is just little old me, so I pay out of pocket to print and publish my book. Therefore, the cost is a bit higher up front. This may mean limited printings, or even printing in shifts, but rest assured. I will always do whatever I can to make the reader happy.
